So I went on a guys trip to Asheville, North Carolina recently to spend some quality time catching up with some of my closest friends. While there, I didn’t waste the trip by skipping out on a new place to try some donuts.
If you’ve never been to Asheville, I’d highly recommend it. The small town packs a big punch when it comes to restaurants and breweries, so I figured I’d probably really enjoy my donut experience while there. I was not disappointed.
I had heard good things about Hole Doughnuts before visiting, so it was an easy pick for a place to go. Check out my thoughts below.

Hole Doughnuts makes a smart play, in my opinion, when it comes to creating items for their menu – they keep it simple. On any given day, you’ll only find four different kinds of donuts available: Vanilla Glazed, Toasted Almond Sesame Cinnamon, Cinnamon Sugar, and a seasonal donut that’s different every week. I think this is a great strategy that allows you, as a business, to really hone in on something to make it great. It’s also nice that if you want to change things up, there’s always the seasonal donut that will keep you on your toes.

I’m giving the Vanilla Glazed an A- due to its great flavor and texture. It’s got just the right amount of sweetness to it and I know you won’t be disappointed by it.

The Five Spice donut was my least favorite. It was their seasonal donut at the time and, while I applaud them for trying it out, to me, it was a miss. It had a fairly strong anise (licorice) flavor and that’s just not my jam.

This was a pretty good donut. Not much to say here. If you like cinnamon sugar donuts, this one is a winner.

This one took me by surprise. It had a pretty complex flavor with it’s salty and sweet thing going on. I don’t love nuts on donuts in general and I don’t think I’ve ever had seeds on a donut, but this one is definitely on my “best of” list. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS ONE.
Asheville should be proud to have Hole Doughnuts on its list of places to eat. These donuts are great and the place has a really great atmosphere. They also serve some quality coffee which I personally can never have enough of. I highly recommend you visit Hold Doughnuts when in Asheville.
